NORTH CAROLINA DIVESTS FROM ISRAEL

Genocide and apartheid are a bad investment.

A coalition including Jewish Voice for Peace -Triangle NC, PalYouth NC, Muslims for Social Justice, Durham Educators for Abolition and Liberation, Jewish Voice for Peace – Charlotte, and employees of the State of North Carolina.

The Break the Bonds NC coalition is proud to announce that NC has sold $6.7 million of Israeli government bonds held in the state pension fund.

This decision follows a powerful campaign supported by over 40 organizations, including unions and faith groups, across our state. Divesting from risky, poorly-performing bonds means a financially stronger pension fund for hundreds of thousands of North Carolina workers. It also sends a clear message across the U.S. that we oppose our hard-earned money being used to fund apartheid, occupation, and genocide.

We call on states, counties, unions, faith organizations, and educational institutions across the U.S. to join the growing list of entities that have divested from Israel bonds and Israeli government bonds in response to community advocacy: North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, New York City, 6 Ohio counties and counting, the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church (USA), and more cities and counties across the U.S. (see AFSC.org/divest)

We launched our campaign in response to the Palestinian call for international boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) of Israeli apartheid. Our victory in NC bolsters BDS efforts across the world.
